Inspired by the recent Daily WTF article, some colleagues of mine developed an ingenious solution to a server timeout problem.

A connection to a server would time out after 2 minutes of inactivity, to counteract this whilst an application was being installed they attached an optical mouse to a rotating fan to simulate movement. Genius!

  2. Hah, I saw the pictures and mention of flaky servers and thought: "Genius, they've connected the fan up to dev so it turns off every time it goes down! (every 2 minutes)" You should totally get them to do that.
